Reflections of the Past Year, Learning Prospective
As we reflect over the accomplishments and disappointments of last year, I sincerely hope that we won’t make some of those same choices that we thought were right at that time. This is what entrepreneurship is all about. Some of us learned from those untimely decisions. When you are in business, timing can be everything. Knowing your markets, knowing your competition and knowing yourself are of utmost importance.
Now is the time for reflections. We must reflect on our business plans, benchmarks, milestones, accomplishments, failures, customers, clients, banking relationships, marketing plans, cash flows and the bottom line. We all know that is a bit much to juggle at all times, but this is what it is all about.
As you read this article, we are hopeful that our economy is headed in the right direction with the full attention to the growth of small businesses. As entrepreneurs, we are about growing businesses and we should embrace those who are championing the cause. If those relationships did not work out for you last year, then maybe it is time to forge new ones. Don’t you think?
Stay inspired with the hope that business will get better. I have been involved in at least three downturns and upswings in the last 30 years in our American business economy. Believe me, it is turning around. Now the pendulum has started to swing in the up mode. I believe that if we all stay focused and control our overhead and expenses, we will be ready to take advantage of the upsurge in business activity that is destined to come in 2013.
Please go back, revisit your business plans, align yourself with the markets and industries that can and will facilitate growth. Working smart and not hard is the call of the day. Switch gears and even businesses if you must. As writers, we write because we sincerely believe in the passion of inspiration in the words that we use. I have to believe in those same words, and I do. I am looking forward to a prosperous year, how about you?
Once again it has been a pleasure to write to you. Have a great beginning!
